Super Proud!

Could not be prouder of Kendall...he is getting after his show heifers for next year.  He does not want things to turn out like they did at the county fair.  Below is a picture of him working with his heifer, Ginger last night at the barn.

What is really cool is the conversation that you can not tell is taking place.  We were playing "pretend" that he was in the 2013 Showmanship finals at the Indiana State fair.  He wanted me to ask him questions while he was working on his heifer.  I probably went way overboard, but I am proud to say that at 8 years old, he not only knows the difference between girl and boy cows, he knows the difference between heifers and cows, approx. how long the gestation of a cow is, the difference between bulls and steers and the process of a bull becoming a steer( this was a tough one to explain), how many ribs cattle have, what his heifer "will be" bred to, who her momma is, that he is suppose to comb his calf after the judge touches it, to move to the side when the judge is looking at the front view, and last but not least, the answer to the ever famous showmanship question, " How many steers were born in the United States last year?".

The scary part is, he remebered it all today, so that tells me that he is learning it.  The really cool thing is, I did not have to push him to do this, he wanted to do it all on his own. If he retains all of this information and continues to learn, he should be very successful in the showring.   Mom and I could not be more proud!!

I know it has been a few days, since I have posted, sorry about that, it is getting to be that busy time of year.  We have alot going on, we have started getting in the pigs for NAILE, have began to start working on some of the sale cattle and are trying to find time to get out and look at some of the other breeders in the areas calves, we have been hearing really good reports on them.

Make sure to keep checking back for updates and pictures of sale cattle and anything else going on at the farm....REMEMBER, steer sales at are place start Sept. 1, first come, first serve.
